Masquerade

I did not start using facial masks until about a year ago. Now that I have incorporated them into my skincare routine it is hard to believe I used to never use them. My main skin issue is cystic acne around the chin area. A lot of people suffer from this and it is difficult to deal with. After the acne is healed, I am left with discoloration. Because my skin is so fair, this discoloration took even longer than normal to fade away. A friend recommended a mask from Alba that she had good results with that helped with hyperpigmentation and discoloration. After that mask worked well for me, I of course wanted to try more. Here are the three masks I regularly incorporate to keep my skin at its best.

Alba Even Advanced Deep Sea Facial Mask

This is the mask that was recommended to me. It claims to help you achieve a more even and bright skin tone by stimulating cell regeneration. Alba recommends leaving it on for 5 minutes and does not specify how many times per week to use it. I use it a little differently that recommended. When I first started this mask, I used it every night for a week and left it on for about 10-15 minutes. Using it this frequently and leaving it on longer than suggested did not dry out my skin at all. The second week I used it about 3-4 days. I noticed that my skin had a more even tone and my acne healed a little faster than before. Skincare products that stimulate cell regeneration are great to use with acne because it will help the skin turnover faster, and therefore heal faster. Now I use this mask 1-2 days a week. Sometimes I will use it more (maybe 3 days in a row) if I have some hyperpigmentation. I cannot recommend this mask enough to those who suffer from the same problems I do.

Origins Clear Improvement Mask

This mask claims to clear pores by using active charcoal. Origins recommends using once a week (or as often as needed). Prior to using this mask, you are supposed to use a warm, wet towel to open your pores. They do not specify the amount of time to leave the mask on. I use this mask once a week and have been for about a month now. I use it after a warm shower (instead of doing that warm towel thing). I leave it on for about 10-15 minutes. After drying, it becomes very tight and feels like you cannot open your mouth or wiggle your nose. If you do, the mask cracks (that is how tight it becomes). I bought this mask hoping that it would help with blackheads around the nose area. Unfortunately, I have not seen a decrease in them since using this. I am going to start using this more frequently and hopefully I will see some results. It has great reviews on Origins and is one of their top sellers, so I am still hoping it will work for me.

Origins Drink Up Intensive

Sometimes the lotion you use at bedtime is not enough to keep your skin hydrated during the colder months. If your skin is feeling the effects of the cold, here is a solution. Origins claims that this mask will repair your skin’s barrier to prevent future dehydration, prevent signs of early aging, and replenish already dry skin. They recommend using twice a week. What caught my attention with this mask was that it is left on overnight. This product is more of a thick lotion as opposed to your typical mask that dries a different color and is detectable on the skin. I use this whenever I feel my skin is on the drier side, which is about 1-2 nights a week. It has a slight smell to it, but nothing I find to be over powerful. When I wake up in the morning, I do find that my skin feels better hydrated and not as “tight.” This product is also one of Origins top sellers, so it has worked for many!
